The Georgia Tech basketball team picked up an ACC Tournament win over Virginia on Wednesday to keep its season alive. Hours later, it was revealed that one of its current roster members is planning to leave the team.

Former four-star recruit Doryan Onwuchekwa is reportedly entering the transfer portal. The freshman is bailing on the Yellow Jackets before the end of his freshman season.

Onwuchekwa played in 10 games this season, averaging 3.5 points and 4.9 rebounds a contest. He hasn’t seen the floor since mid-December.

Head coach Damon Stoudamire cited “personal reasons” in Onwuchekwa’s absence from the lineup. It now appears that absence has turned into a departure from the program altogether.

Georgia Tech was the second program that Doryan Onwuchekwa has signed with. He initially inked a letter of intent with Colorado, choosing the Buffs over the Yellow Jackets and two other finalists.

Three months later, he requested to be let out of his NLI. The two sides mutually agreed to part ways, allowing for Onwuchekwa to move onto Atlanta. His stay at Georgia Tech is now over, too.

It will be interesting to see where the talented big man ends up. At 6-11, he has the size to attack at the rim. He’s also not afraid to stretch the defense by shooting the three-ball.

He’ll certainly garner attention from notable programs around the country. The search for his third school begins now.
