Fox Sports analyst Doug Gottlieb is set to become the next head basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The 48-year-old is making the move from television to the sideline for the first time.

This move comes less than a month after he tried to fix Caitlin Clark’s form as a shooter.

Jon Rothstein reported the hire as a possibility on Tuesday morning. Ellie French of WLUK-TV FOX 11 was the first to break the news as official!

Gottlieb currently hosts The Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio and often replaces Colin Cowherd as the substitute host of The Herd when Cowherd is out. He also spent time at ESPN, CBS and the Pac-12 Network.

Prior to his time as a commentator, Gottlieb was a talented college basketball player at Notre Dame, Golden West (community college) and Oklahoma State. However, his career was marred by an incident in South Bend when he stole a classmate’s credit card and used it to charge multiple purchases.

When on the floor, he was a fantastic distributor at the point guard position.

Gottlieb led the Fighting Irish with 154 assists, as well as steals and minutes played. Ball-handling was his calling card.

After transferring out of Notre Dame because of the whole credit card thing, Gottlieb spent one season on the JUCO level before transferring back up to play at Oklahoma State. He led the nation in assists as a junior and senior with the Cowboys and helped to lead them to the Elite Eight.

Gottlieb finished his career ranked 10th all-time in NCAA career assists but was unable to find a place in the NBA. The California-native ultimately played three years overseas before hanging up his sneakers.

Doug Gottlieb is now a coach.

Barring an unforeseen change, Gottlieb is going to be the next head coach at Green Bay. The Phoenix compete in the Horizon League and have not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2016. They won 21 games in 2018/19 but did not win the conference tournament and missed out on an automatic bid.

Green Bay won 16 games total from 2020 to 2023. It hired Sundance Wicks prior to this past season and he won 18 games in his first year, which led him to be hired to the same role at Wyoming.

Gottlieb will replace Wicks.

The hire comes 15 days after he posted about a “mechanical flaw” in Clark’s shooting form on social media. He wants to fix the stroke of the greatest scorer in college basketball history.

Now Gottlieb will get the chance to fix the stroke of an entire team!
