The Doug Gottlieb experiment at Green Bay has somehow gone even worse than expected. His team owns the longest losing streak in college basketball and suffered the worst second-half collapse of the entire season on Friday night.
His first season at the helm is a total dumpster fire.
Gottlieb, 49, had never coached basketball on any level prior to this year but Green Bay still decided to give him the job. His unique agreement also allowed him to stay on as the host of his daily, three-hour radio show with Fox Sports. It was never a good idea and, sure enough, it has been a disaster.
Not only does Gottlieb look exhausted by his grueling schedule as a college basketball coach and national radio host, the Phoenix are terrible. They did not win a single game in the month of December after their head coach vowed not to work during the holidays. They also lost to a Division-II school after he referred to inferior opponents as ‘Nobody U.’
Even though Green Bay is winless since Nov. 19 at 2-18, Gottlieb believes things are trending in the right direction. Here is what he had to say on Thursday:
Rome wasn’t built in a day […]
My goal was to get better and better and better and I think anybody who has watched this team is honest with themselves says they’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but we’re definitely getting better.
— Doug Gottlieb
The Phoenix actually held a five-point lead over the Robert Morris Colonials at halftime on Friday night, less than 24 hours after their head coach said they are getting better. Maybe Doug Gottlieb was right?!

Green Bay did not score again until there was nine minutes and 27 seconds remaining in the second half. The Phoenix went more than 10 minutes without a bucket. Robert Morris was down 45-42 at halftime. The Colonials took a 68-45 lead on a 26-0 run to begin the second half and went on to win 89-67.

To make matters worse, Gottlieb posted about the following women’s basketball blunder on X just a few hours prior to tipoff against Robert Morris. He did so in a mocking manner.
Can you spot what Niagara WBB did wrong? (The announcers were out to lunch) pic.twitter.com/n6b5e35C10

The post, which no longer exists, drew a lot of criticism and for good reason.
Doug Gottlieb is 2-16, with a loss to a D-II school and the nation’s longest losing streak (13 games), and instead of figuring out how to be a better coach, he’s laughing at the events in a woman’s game

If that look was not bad enough, Doug Gottlieb deleted the post after Green Bay’s horrific second-half collapse. The national radio host was unable to handle the replies and got his feelings hurt. Boohoo.
