It’s been a very rough couple of months for Drake thanks in no small part to his one-sided beef with Kendrick Lamar, but the rapper took another hit to the tune of $1 million after the infamous “Drake Curse” reared its ugly head thanks to bets he made on the Mavericks and Oilers.

Anyone who’s kept tabs on Drake over the years probably knows he’s never been shy about jumping on the bandwagon to support sports teams and athletes who have a tendency to implode once he throws their support behind them—a list that includes Alabama’s football team, Kentucky’s basketball team, Johnny Manziel, and Conor McGregor.

There are some exceptions (the Raptors were able to avoid succumbing to the Drake Curse when they won an NBA title in 2019), but if you’re looking to make some money by betting on sports, fading the rapper’s picks seems to be a pretty good strategy more often than not.

Need proof? Well, prior to the start of the NBA Finals, Drake dropped $500,000 worth of Bitcoin on the Mavericks to triumph over the Celtics only to lose it all after Boston walked away with the victory in convincing fashion by dispatching Dallas in five games.

That marked the start of a brutal week, as that loss transpired just a couple of days before Drake found himself serving as a punching bag courtesy of the instantly iconic concert Kendrick Lamar held in Los Angeles on June 19th.

Drake supplemented his Mavericks wager with another $500,000 bet on the Oilers to beat the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, and while it initially looked like Edmonton’s fate was sealed after they dropped into a 3-0 hole against Florida, they had the chance to mount a wildly unlikely comeback when Game 7 was played on Monday night.

Unfortunately, Connor McDavid and Co. came up short in that quest, and Drake subsequently found himself down a grand total of $1 million after both of his bets failed to hit.

Something tells me he’s going to be just fine on the financial front (especially when you consider he has a partnership with the betting platform he used to place the wagers), but that still has to sting a little bit.
