The Los Angeles Dodgers could potentially be without their starting shortstop for 2025 Opening Day as Mookie Betts continues to get pummeled by a stomach bug. Betts revealed to reporters on Sunday that he has lost a ton of weight and hasn’t been able to keep down food for 2 weeks.
The Dodgers took down the Angels 7-1 in Spring Training on Sunday but Mookie Betts wasn’t in the lineup. Speaking with reporters, he said he’s lost a whopping 23 pounds in the past 2 weeks.
Mookie says he had thrown up that morning and hasn’t been able to keep down food since the Dodgers’ trip to Japan two weeks ago where he contracted some sort of stomach bug. At this point, he could potentially be in the lineup for Opening Day 2025 but he is missing some much-needed at bats before the season starts.
Mookie Betts has lost roughly around 23 pounds over the last two weeks.

Betts said he started feeling ill two days before the Dodgers played in Tokyo. He told reporters “I didn’t get to play the last game… Got on the plane, I thought I would at least give myself a couple of days to kind of heal and the plane ride was brutal.”
Mookie Betts went on to say “that was one of the worst plane rides I’ve ever had… Got there and got one workout in… That was a really bad trip to Tokyo. So I came back and another really bad plane ride.”
He finished by saying “there hasn’t been anything really encouraging but it is what it is.”
Mookie Betts described his illness as frustrating. He hasn’t been diagnosed with anything. He hasn’t been able to hold food down since 2 days before the Tokyo trip. But he says otherwise he feels fine. He said he is down to 157 pounds.

At some point a doctor needs to see this man, right? Down 23 pounds in 2 weeks. Get him a diagnosis!
