Charles Barkley is officially retiring from television.
For the past year, fans and the media have wondered what Barkley would do if TNT lost its media rights. next year
Many believed that ESPN would make a huge offer to lure Barkley next offseason, but he shot that down during an interview a few weeks ago.
“They’re not gonna work me like a dog,” Barkley said. “ESPN Radio, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes. I mean, HELL NO! As much as I love ESPN, I just turned 61. The notion that I’m going to be working like a dog into my mid-60s, that’s definitely not going to happen.”
On Friday night, after game 4 of the NBA Finals,an emotional Barkley decided to end all the speculation by announcing that he would retire from television after next season.
“I have talked to all the other networks, but I ain’t going no where other than TNT. I have made the decision myself….next year is going to be my last year on television.”
