The Georgia Bulldogs were eliminated from the College Football Playoff on Thursday, losing to Notre Dame, 23-10, at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. And, Bulldogs fans have a scapegoat.

Reserve cornerback Parker Jones was called for a penalty despite not even being dressed for the game when he made contact with an official on a long pass play for the Bulldogs that ultimately cost them fifteen yards. Now, ESPN is being criticized for just how much they covered and mentioned Jones during the broadcast.

First, here was the sequence. Take a look.

The penalty came at the end of a 67-yard reception by Arian Smith that would’ve set Georgia up deep inside Notre Dame territory. But, the 15-yard penalty, enforced after the play was over, helped lead to Georgia settling for a field goal in their 23-10 loss.

Jones is listed as a redshirt sophomore cornerback out of Deerfield-Windsor High School in Georgia. He has yet to record a statistic in his Bulldog career.

Life is gonna be pretty tough for a while after this for Parker Jones, as I’m sure plenty of Georgia fans are ticked off at him. ESPN did not help his case by panning the camera to him late in the game.

People online were not happy about it, to say the least.

It was a bit overboard from ESPN, and hopefully Parker Jones can move past this quickly.
