I feel like you have to be a pretty diehard football fan to be familiar with Kurt Benkert, but the man who spent five seasons as a backup QB in the NFL before turning his attention to the world of video game streaming is putting that knowledge to very good use in College Football 25.

Kurt Benkert spent a few years with East Carolina before transferring to the University of Virginia and ultimately capping off his college career with the Cavaliers in 2017 during a campaign where he broke the school’s single-game passing yard record.

He failed to attract the interest of any teams during the 2018 NFL Draft but ultimately landed a deal with the Falcons.

He didn’t see any action in Atlanta before heading to Green Bay (the two knees he took at the end of a game in 2021 marked the only time he played in an NFL game), which preceded a practice squad stint with the 49ers and a brief fling with the XFL before he decided to retire in 2023.

Benkert has managed to keep busy since then, as the 29-year-old currently oversees a burgeoning sports equipment brand as well as a YouTube channel with close to 250,000 subscribers that was built on a foundation of videos where he used his football knowledge to gain an edge in Madden.

The former QB found himself with a new outlet in the wake of the release of College Football 25, and he’s spent the last week whipping up a number of videos filled with tricks and tips other gamers can use to get the upper hand while playing the most anticipated title in sports video game history.

There are certainly worse people to learn from when you consider Benkert won the first ten games he played online (he pulled out to a 33-7 lead at the end of the second quarter in his very first one before his opponent quit) and was globally ranked in the Top 500 during the initial streak (it’s unclear where he’s sitting as of this writing).
