The Saints improved to 2-0 on the season with a very decisive win over the Cowboys last weekend, and FEMA had to issue a mea culpa after accidentally sending out a press release that dubbed the one-sided contest a “major disaster.”

Nobody really expected the New Orleans Saints to be contenders heading into the 2024 NFL season, and while it may be a bit too early to say they’re The Real Deal, they’ve shown plenty of promise based on what’s transpired so far.

It would be foolish to put too much stake in their 47-10 win over an impressive dysfunctional Carolina Panthers team in Week 1.

However, it was hard to ignore the statement they made on the road against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday with the 44-19 thrashing where Derek Carr passed for 243 yards and threw a couple of touchdowns (he also took care of business himself one time with a QB sneak) and Alvin Kamara punched the ball into the end zone three times on the ground while snagging one of those throws.

According to The New Orleans Advocate, the folks at FEMA drew inspiration from that contest for what was supposed to be an internal training exercise that led to the federal agency sending out a press release on Thursday with the subject line “President Daniel Largues Declares Major Disaster After Saints Beat Cowboys in Dallas” while taking a jab at the Cowboys with a message that read:

“FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Texas to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 15, 2024.”

The FEMA Press Office quickly followed up with an apology, saying the email had been sent in error while clarifying the message was intended for “training purposes only.”

Folks in New Orleans may not have the fondest feelings for FEMA based on what transpired after Hurricane Katrina,  but you have to imagine Saints fans appreciated that.
