Fenway Park is one of the oldest and most historic venues in all of professional sports. From the majestic Green Monster to Pesky’s Pole, fans are sent back in time each time they enter the grounds.

With that, however, come issues not experienced at some of the MLB’s newer ballparks. That was on full display Wednesday night when the Red Sox took on the Toronto Blue Jays.

The evening started like any other – with a celebrity and a ceremonial first pitch.

It was Alex Cooper Night in Boston, giving the popular podcaster an opportunity to test out her abilities on the mound. Her first pitch sailed well wide of its intended target. It would only be a sign of things to come.

Shortly after the contest’s start, a weather delay caused a stop in action. Rain poured down on the crowd in attendance, causing many to take cover in the concourse below.

Unfortunately, those patrons were unable to escape the elements!

Videos on social media show water rushing below the stadium seats as fans scurried for a dry spot. Waves of precipitation could be seen flooding down flights of stairs.

Many on social media immediately reacted upon seeing the clip.

This building is seriously out of code and the owners refuse to spend a dime to correct drainage issues.

Fenway Park has seen a fair share of improvements over the years, which have been noted by MLB.com. Many of those fixes have revolved around waterproofing the venue, though some involved improving the ballpark’s aesthetics. Those renovations haven’t done enough to impress a number of locals.

And unfortunately, this flooding has become a recurring event. This was the scene during a rain storm just last year.

Fenway Park takes the top spot on most baseball fans’ bucket list. Just make sure you check the weather before buying your tickets!
