Nam Nguyen finally broke his silence on the figure skating drama that involved Ilia Malinan and Gracie Gold at the Olympics. The 27-year-old apologized for how he approached the situation on social media.

However, the Canadian skater did not confirm or deny any of the allegations.

It remains unclear as to exactly who did or did not do what with who. All we know for certain is that whatever did or did not happen took place during the Olympics in Italy.

Who is Nam Nguyen?

Born in 1998, Nguyen started skating at the age of five years old in his home town of Richmond, British Columbia and later moved to Toronto to train under Brian Orser. He was a phenom.

The Canadian became the youngest Juvenile, Pre-Novice and Novice champion in history before his 11th birthday and later became the youngest skater to win the junior men’s title in 2011. Nguyen won a gold medal at the World Junior Championships three years later.

Despite his success as a youth, his upward trajectory ultimate fizzled out. That is not to take away his accomplishments.

Nam Nguyen claimed a silver medal at Skate Canada International in 2019 and bronze medal at Skate America in 2015 but he never made the Olympics or won a non-junior national championship. He retired to become a coach on his 24th birthday in 2022.

That’s the background on Nguyen. But for this specific topic of discussion, the only thing that really matters is his personal life.

Nguyen confirmed his relationship with former American figure skating champion Gracie Gold on Valentine’s Day in 2025. They made frequent appearances together at various seminars and competitions over the last 12 months.

They also skated together during the Stars On Ice Tour and went on vacation together. This was not just a casual thing. It was (is?) a full-blown boyfriend/girlfriend situation.

Nam Nguyen either dated or is currently dating Gracie Gold. Their current status is unknown.

Amber Glenn did not dance with Ilia Malinin at the club.

Before we go any further down this path — let me make one thing very clear… We do not know exactly what happened in Italy over the last 10ish days. That is between Ilia Malinin, Gracie Gold and Nam Nguyen. And maybe Lee Hae-in. It is messy.

All I can do is lay out what happened in order. You can draw your own conclusions from there!

Lets start with Malinin and Lee.

Malinin, known to many as the Quad God, was the biggest disappointment of the Olympics. He was a -10,000 favorite to win a gold medal. He finished eighth.

Lee, a well-decorated South Korean skater, also competed at the Olympics. They exchanged flirty comments back and forth on Instagram while they were in Milano.

This was the exchange that really got people talking:

Are they together? Are they just friends? Maybe. Yes. No. Nobody knows!

At this same time, rumors started to swirl about an “A-list figure skater” who was allegedly cheating on his girlfriend while at the Olympics. This was the post from a popular gossip blog that set it off:

A name was not used and it remains unclear as to who the “A list figure skater” could be. We don’t know.

And then a viral video hit the timeline that showed Malinin dancing with a blonde woman at the club. The woman is not Amber Glenn. She made that abundantly clear.

So who is the woman? Was Ilia Malinin the A-list skater? Was he dating Lee Hae-in? WE DON’T KNOW!

Did Gracie Gold cheat on her boyfriend at the Olympics?

This is another question to which we do not know the answer. Gold has not addressed the rumors. Nothing has been confirmed.

We can only go off of the posts from Nam Nguyen, who spiraled on social media after the image of Ilia Malinin at the club first became public. He changed his personal account on X to a different username.

@namnamnoodle became the burner account @JJcbgp. It was the same account.

The @JJcbgp account made the following posts and reposts about Gold:

  • POST: “That’s Gracie Gold. She cheated on her boyfriend for that”
  • POST: “A list figure skater is Ilia Malinin. There is a video of Gracie Gold cheating on her boyfriend by inappropriately dancing on Ilia”
  • POST: “Girl in the video is Gracie Gold. She’s dating somebody
  • REPOST: “Nowadays, dating is scary. You’re being genuine with someone, & the whole time they’re being strategic with you.”
  • REPOST: “Imagine opening up about all your trauma to someone you’re dating, only for them to hurt and taumatise (sic) you in the exact same way because they knew your weakness.”
  • REPOST: “She never cared about you. She only cared about the attention, validation, emotional support and status that you gave her. Her caring about you was basically her caring about herself. She never cared about you. She only cared about what you gave her.”
  • REPOST: “communicatin is key but so is a sense of understanding. if i tell you something and you’re not willing to see where i’m coming from, then what’s the point of telling you anything.”
  • REPOST: “Nobody gets angrier than a narcissist being accused of something they definitely did”

Nguyen has since changed his account back to @namnamnoodle. He released the following statement:

Hi everyone, it’s Nam. I know the last few days have been chaotic. I take full responsibility for everything you’ve seen on X the last few days (my comments and immature reposts), and that video was unfortunate to our relationship. What Gracie and I have between us is private and I broke that bond by not being my best self. I apologize to everyone, mistakes were made and lessons are learned. If there’s anything to take from this, I ask that you guys please lay off of Gracie. She’s been through enough, and any personal attacks against her are unacceptable.

Sorry to all I that I have disappointed 🙏

— Nam Nguyen

He did not turn off his replies as something of a humiliation ritual to take the heat off of Gracie Gold. But he did go private on Instagram.

“I would rather be called all the names and take the blame for all of this than that energy going to her. She doesn’t deserve any of this. I’m sorry again🙏”

Gold has not addressed the accusations at this time. Her comment section on Instagram is a mess.

That just about covers the figure skating drama at the Olympics. Ilia Malinin, Nam Nguyen, Gracie Gold and (maybe?) Lee Hae-In have some explaining to do. I wonder if they will choose to do that explaining or try to let it blow over. Nothing is confirmed. Nothing is denied. We don’t know!
