After his latest embarrassing loss, this time at the hands of in-state foe USF, Billy Napier is likely just playing out the string at head coach of the Florida Gators.
But don’t worry, Gators fans, if you thought that Napier might make some sort of big change to try and help the team or, at least, hope to save his job, that’s no longer a worry.
In fact, Napier told members of the media on Monday that he has no intention of giving up his play-calling responsibilities at any time in the near future.

Billy Napier Isn’t Giving Up Play-Calling Duties For Struggling Florida Gators Offense
“I think there’s a ton of missed opportunities in the game early,” said Napier about the play calling. “I think that we shot ourselves in the foot quite a bit. I think we played from behind the sticks. Penalties were a major issue.
“We didn’t get it done in the second half. We had seven possessions and six punts. To me, when I think about it, I think about the second half. I think there’s some opportunities there to make some plays, but I also think we contribute to that as coaches.
“I’d like to watch the tape before I comment on that, but in general, I think there’s a combination of both. That’s how I would say it.”
Through two frames, Florida ranks 46th in points per game (18.0) and 79th in yards per game (391.0).
Napier took over the Gators’ head coaching job in 2022 after a successful stint at Louisiana-Lafayette. In his three seasons in Gainesville, Florida has ranked 46th, 59th and 66th in total offense.
Meanwhile, quarterback DJ Lagway entered the season with legitimate Heisman Trophy hype. But through two games, Lagway has a QBR of just 52.4 according to ESPN.
Unfortunately for Gators fans, things don’t look set to get much better. They certainly don’t get much easier. Florida finishes the season with eight ranked opponents in its final 10 games.
