Florida Gators Block Fans From Tailgating Lots After Embarrassing Week One Loss To Miami

As if Florida Gators fans needed any more reasons to be mad at their football program, the university added another one to the pile on Saturday.

The Gators entered the 2024 college football season on the back of a pair of sub-.500 seasons under head coach Billy Napier. Things got even worse in Week 1 when Florida got blown out by rival Miami on its home field.

But there was some reason for hope. The Gators remained in The Swamp in Week 2 to take on Samford in a contest in which they’re favored by 37 points. Surely nothing could go wrong, right?

Wrong.

Before the game even began, Florida found a way to anger its fans by blocking off several traditional parking and tailgate spots.

Florida alum Jonathan Arnholz tweeted that campus PD and parking services threatened to ticket anyone who parked in those spots.

“A great time to completely piss off a fan base is when they don’t want to show up anyway,” Florida alum and media member Spencer Hall said of the situation.

Who thought this was a good idea? And more than that: who thought the way to roll this out was in Week 2 without any formal announcement to fans? Worse leadership and decision making than the football program,” asked Florida fan Ryan King.

This comes on the heels of Napier throwing shade at Gators fans earlier in the week.

“You gotta go to work on the football part,” Napier said when asked how to turn things around. “And I think we’ve got to become a more consistent team and we have to execute better. If we can focus on those things, and not necessarily what some guy in his basement’s saying in rural Central Florida on social media, then we got a chance to get better.”

Good luck with that, Billy. Let’s see how it works out for you!
