According to ESPN, the WBO stripped Floyd Mayweather of his welterweight world title on Monday due to his failure to pay a $200,000 sanctioning fee from his fight with Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd. While $200,000 sounds like a huge chunk of change to peasants like you and I, Floyd Mayweather probably uses 4x that as inner-wall insulation in his Las Vegas mansion. Hell, back in June he was caught on video dropping $35,000 on strippers in some ratchet club, so it’s not like the guy is exactly struggling. In a statement given by the WBO,
The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title for failing to comply with our WBO regulations of world championship contests…The WBO has the utmost respect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and all that he has accomplished during his storied career,” the WBO wrote in its resolution. “Mr. Mayweather has always agreed with and understood that world championships have both privileges and responsibilities and that status as WBO champion is subject to and conditioned on compliance with the WBO rules and regulations.
The Mayweather camp is reported to be “displeased” by the ruling, much in the same way I’m “displeased” when my packages from Amazon arrive a day later than the tracking number tells me. Totally annoying, sort of a bummer, but not enough for me to shed a tear and actually give a shit.
You can read the full statement from the WBO here, or you can go on living your life knowing that Floyd Mayweather shits your yearly salary for breakfast and uses whatever bonuses your boss chucks at you like peanut shells at a Longhorn Steakhouse as toothpicks.
