This is the toughest time of year for NFL executives. Many are facing major decisions about how to handle their team’s draft with little information about who will be available when they pick and no way to know for sure how many of the available prospects will actually pan out.

This is especially true for teams drafting at the top end of the NFL draft. Those teams tend to have major needs and depend upon their executives to get those top picks right to fix their issues.

One former NFL Pro Bowler believes that one team’s executives are going to make a huge mistake at this year’s NFL draft. That Pro Bowler believes Aidan Hutchinson, who is projected to be one of the top picks in this year’s draft, will be a bust.

Hutchinson is expected by some to be the #2 pick in this year’s NFL draft. The Detroit Lions hold the pick and Hutchinson is a Michigan native who chose to play his college ball in Michigan. It certainly makes sense for them if they think he’s the guy.

However, Hutchinson has one more red flag beyond the critique from the former Pro Bowler. There isn’t a ton of evidence that Hutchinson will be a good NFL player. He had a dominant senior season with 14 sacks, but before that he had only 3.5 sacks in 22 games.

That’s not a lot of positive data to base an organization changing decision on. The teams picking at the top of this draft really need to consider whether one great year is worth investing so much draft capital in.
