The college transfer portal is often a wild and wonderful place, and we got a taste of that on Monday evening when former Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey flipped his portal commitment to Kentucky just one day after committing to Nebraska.

Minchey, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 high school class, was first committed to the Pitt Panthers before ultimately landing at Notre Dame.

He redshirted in 2023 behind then-Fighting Irish starter Sam Hartman and sat behind Riley Leonard in 2024. This past season, Minchey battled for the starting job with redshirt freshman CJ Carr before ultimately losing out.

In sporadic game time, he completed 20-of-26 passes for 196 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, although he did have one rushing touchdown.

Despite the lack of playing time, On3 Sports still ranked Minchey as one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal.

So when Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola entered his own name into the portal, it made perfect sense for the Cornhuskers to pursue Minchey. On Sunday, Minchey announced that he had committed to Huskers.

And then things changed…

Kenny Minchey Allegedly Left Nebraska Hanging For A Bigger NIL Payday

Just 24 hours after news that Nebraska had secured Minchey’s commitment, On3 Sports reported that the Tennessee native had flipped his commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats.

According to former Nebraska player and current Bussin’ With The Boys podcast host, Will Compton, Minchey and his agent double-crossed the Huskers.

“Kenny Minchey just f—ed Nebraska. He committed. Was supposed to visit tomorrow. Agent had paperwork & said he was signing. Kentucky hit him with a blank check. Lack of honor & spine led him to switch before signing the contract. Agent complied,” Compton posted on X.

If true, that’s a rough look for Minchey. But hey, the game is the game.

As for the Wildcats, they may feel turnabout is fair play. It appeared that Kentucky was the frontrunner to land Sam Leavitt, the top-ranked quarterback in the portal out of Arizona State, before Leavitt reportedly received several larger offers, with LSU now the alleged frontrunner for his services.

As for Nebraska and head coach Matt Rhule, they’re left to regroup and turn their attention elsewhere in the search for a quarterback for the 2026 season.
