Eddie Lacy, Former Packers And Alabama Star Running Back, Arrested In Arizona

Eddie Lacy, who starred at running back for the Alabama Crimson Tide and then the Green Bay Packers in the NFL, was arrested Monday night in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Lacy was pulled over for traffic violations around 10:30 p.m. local time after police officers were contacted about a possibly impaired driver.

“Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop due to traffic violations that were observed by the officers,” the Scottsdale Police Department stated following the arrest.

ABC 15 News reports that during Eddie Lacy’s traffic stop, a Scottsdale Police officer noticed what appeared to be an open container of alcohol.

Eddie Lacy was then arrested for possession of an open container inside a vehicle and extreme DUI (having a blood alcohol level of .20 or higher).

TMZ reports that Lacy, 34, was was released from jail early Tuesday morning.

Eddie Lacy was a member of three BCS National Championship teams while playing at Alabama. In 2012, his junior season, Lacy rushed for 1,322 yards in 14 games with 19 total touchdowns. He averaged 6.8 yards per carry during his three years with the Tide.

The Green Bay Packers then selected Lacy in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, 61st overall. He went on to be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after rushing for 1,178 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns.

Lacy would follow up his Pro Bowl rookie year with another 1,000 yard season for the Packers in 2014, gaining 1,139 yards on the ground with a total of 13 touchdowns rushing and receiving. That same year he rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries in a Packers playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys.

By year three, his production had started to diminish. Lacy started just 12 games in 2015, rushing for 758 yards and scoring just five touchdowns.

In year four, Eddie Lacy only played in five games due to an ankle injury. He did, however, average a career-high 5.1 yards per carry.

Lacy, at age 27, would then sign a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He started just three games and gained just 179 yards rushing on the season. It would be his final season in the NFL. He earned over $7.5 million during his career.
