Former Penn State wrestling star Carter Starocci, who became the only person in NCAA wrestling history to win five national championships in March, is now facing some troubling allegations involving sexual assault and misconduct.
In a bombshell report from Evan Smith of The Daily Collegian, Penn State’s student newspaper, multiple women accused Starocci of sexual assault, while a pair of former teammates also alleged inappropriate sexual behavior from Starocci in team facilities. Starocci was also the subject of an investigation involving several thefts in the Penn State wrestling locker room.
Multiple Women And Former Teammates Accuse Carter Starocci Of Sexual Misconduct
The university’s police force was able to place Starocci and one other teammate at the scene of the theft when it occurred, but could not prove that he was responsible for the action. The case was later dropped.
“He is intimidating and the things he would do against people who are against him are very concerning and disgusting,” Ava, a Penn State sophomore who requested anonymity, said.
Another woman, who also requested anonymity for fear of backlash, said that Starocci invited her to his home to watch a movie. She alleges he then raped her twice. She said the last time she saw him after that night was when she asked him to purchase her an emergency contraceptive pill the next morning.
Starocci’s former teammate Beau Bartlett, a three-time All-American who recently left Penn State for the New York City Training Center, says Starocci also took inappropriate pictures of both he and other teammates.
“I walked out of the shower to a snapshot from (Starocci) of me, naked,” Bartlett said. “The team had a snapchat group chat that he filled with those kinds of pictures of teammates.”
Neither Penn State Athletics nor Starocci responded to The Daily Collegian’s questions regarding their knowledge of the situation.
