Former Philadelphia Eagles Player Says Current Team Dealing With An Identity Crisis

What is the identity of the Philadelphia Eagles?

That’s what former Eagles player and longtime NFL head coach Herm Edwards is trying to answer after the team’s 2-2 start to the season.

The Eagles are attempting to move forward without a pair of franchise legends, Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, after each retired in the offseason. And they’re finding that transition a little more difficult than they would have hoped.

“It’s stormy in Philadelphia right now. It’s been stormy since last year,” Edwards said during an appearance on the Carlin vs. Joe Show.  “I mean, this team has really echoed how it played toward the end of the season last year. I has not been fixed

“I think there’s a leadership void with this football team. I talked about it in the offseason, I said the biggest thing that will face this organization and this team is the loss of Kelce and obviously Fletcher Cox. They were the veterans in this room and took a lot of the burden away from Jalen Hurts.

“He could just play quarterback. Because he had these two guys, one on offense and one on defense, in the room. And they were the guys in the room…Now, they’re just an offense that has no identity, to be quite honest.”

Edwards suggested that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts isn’t comfortable being a leader.

Hurts, through four games, has completed a career-high 68.2 percent of his passes for 930 yards and four touchdowns. But he also had four interceptions and a league-leading five fumbles.

Kelce and Cox were considered two of the best veteran leaders in the game. So it’s no surprise to see the Eagles struggling to replace them. But nobody could have imagined they would have this much impact on a team that made the Super Bowl just two seasons ago.
