Four-Star QB Bails On Oregon One Month After Signing Following Rose Bowl Beatdown

The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning are having a no good, very bad few weeks after a college football season where everything seemed to go right. The Ducks went 13-0, won the Big Ten in their first season in the conference, landed the top seed in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff and inked one of the country’s top recruiting classes.

But from that point on, everything has seemingly gone to he– in a handbasket. The downturn began with Ohio State Buckeyes, who many believed to be the second-best team in the country behind Oregon, drawing the No. 8 seed in the playoffs and a potential quarterfinal matchup with the Ducks.

Then five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, who signed with the Ducks in the early signing period, asked for and was granted a release from his letter of intent. Wilson eventually signed with the Florida Gators.

Things got worse when Oregon’s worse fears were realized in the Rose Bowl, ending up on the wrong end of a 41-21 drubbing at the hands of Ohio State in a game that was not as close as the score indicated.

Oregon Loses Four-Star QB To Transfer Portal Just Weeks After Signing Day

Somehow, things got even worse on Friday when four-star quarterback commit Jaron Sagopolutele took a cue from Wilson and entered the transfer portal.

Sagopulotele was the eighth-ranked QB in his class according to 247Sports and the 106th-ranked player overall. He spent much of the cycle committed to Cal before flipping to the Ducks on Signing Day.

Now, it appears, he’s had a change of heart. Who knows why? Maybe Cal came back with a similar financial package? Maybe Oregon is set to pursue another big-name quarterback in the transfer portal? But one thing we do know is that the Ducks seemed to be on top of the college football world a month ago, and now they’ve been handed a stark reminder of just how quickly things can change.
