The New York Mets seemingly are always the team on the wrong side of chaotic finishes and endings. That wasn’t the case on Monday’s de facto MLB Playoffs play-in doubleheader against the Braves, and it wasn’t the case for Francisco Lindor and company in Thursday’s dramatic, come-from-behind, ninth-inning miracle win against the Milwaukee Brewers in the deciding game of the NL Wild Card Series.

After the game, it was more clear than ever before that Francisco Lindor should join Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez, John Franco, and David Wright on the list of New York Mets captains.

Lindor had a huge game on Thursday. He went 2-4 and his walk in the top of the 9th inning spurred the rally that led to this earth-shattering home run by Pete Alonso that ended up advancing the Mets.

Make no mistake, that was a huge hit by Pete Alonso, who has had a rough year as he awaits free agency. But, the heart and soul of the team is Francisco Lindor. It took a while for Mets fans to warm up to him after the Mets traded for him from Cleveland and signed him to a huge $300 million+ extension prior to the 2021 season. He’s led all of baseball in WAR for shortstops, but it wasn’t really until this season that he fully embraced by the fanbase during a campaign that will likely land him second in the NL MVP voting behind Shohei Ohtani.

It was fitting that Lindor was responsible for the final two outs of the game. Take a look.

He’s the emotional leader of the team, and this clip proves it.

It’s time, Mr. Cohen, David Stearns, and Carlos Mendoza. Make Francisco Lindor the captain of the New York Mets.
