Charles Barkley made headlines late last week with some comments he made about Galveston, Texas following the New Orleans Pelicans loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In NBA lingo, “going to Cancun” is shorthand for a player’s season being over. Barkley, however, didn’t feel that the Pelicans deserved to go to the Mexican vacation city, instead declaring that they’re gonna “send them to Galveston.”

“We’re not even gonna send them to Cancun. We’re gonna send them to Galveston, where that dirty-a– water be washed up on the shore,” Barkley said. “We not gonna send y’all to Cancun, y’all drive your a–, y’all quit. Drive your a– down to Galveston.”

He continued: “We sending their ass to Galveston, Texas, right where that dirty water washed up on the beach, they can’t even get in the water.”

The official Instagram account for Galeveston’s tourism board responded to Barkley on Instagram.

“Charles Barkley, here I was thinking we were cool, and then you go throwing shade like we’re strangers. What’s up with that?” the post reads.

This isn’t the first time that Barkley had a bone to pick with a specific, as he famously made fun of San Antonio and the size of their women for over a decade now.

Barkley, in fact, even used San Antonio to further dunk on Galveston, saying he’d rather vacation in the former than the latter.

“Oh hell no. I’d rather go to San Antonio. I’d rather go to San Antonio with those big old women,” Barkley said on Sunday.

Barkley’s disdain for midsized Texan cities runs so deep that there are compilation videos cracking jokes about San Antonio, one of which is longer than 15-minutes.
