NFL World Debating Whether Garrett Wilson’s One-Handed Catch Was Better Than Odell Beckham Jr’s

New York Jets third-year wide receiver Garrett Wilson made one of the catches of the 2024 NFL season on Thursday in the Jets’ Halloween night win over the Houston Texans.

Garrett Wilson’s catch — a touchdown grab on 3-and-19 in the 4th quarter to give the Jets a lead they’d never surrender — was so good, in fact, that it’s already in the discussion with one of the greatest catches of all-time: Odell Beckham Jr’s legendary one-handed snag against the Dallas Cowboys.

Given that both catches happened in MetLife Stadium, by rangy, dynamic, athletic New York wide receivers, it should come as no surprise that a debate between the two catches has already begun.

While former Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott argued on Get Up! that Beckham’s is a more iconic catch because it inspired a generation to attempt to learn to make catches like that, he believes the degree of difficulty was higher on Wilson’s catch, thus making it more impressive.

“In no world is Garrett Wilson’s catch better than Odell’s. Odell literally caught the ball with three fingers with more air yards on it while being mugged by a defender,” one Giants fan posted on social media.

“That’s better than the Odell catch, for real,” said Jets cornerback DJ Reed after the game.

“Wilson had a great catch. Like, an all-timer. But, Odell fought through DPI to make his catch. Therefore, I deem it slightly better,” another football fan weighed in.

There’s also the fact that the Giants ultimately lost that game to the Cowboys while the Jets were able to beat the Texans and improve their record to 3-6, which doesn’t quite save their season but also stays its execution.

Wilson himself even weighed in on the debate between the two moments, telling reporters after the game: “Odell against the Cowboys, that was the one. So, for it to even come up in that convo, I’m blessed. I’m honored.”

In the Jets’ 21-13 Week 9 win over the Houston Texans, Wilson had nine catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns in what was his best outing of the 2024 season so far, and therefore the best game he’s played with Aaron Rodgers.
