While Tiger Woods is reportedly in Switzerland seeking treatment at an inpatient facility following his DUI arrest in Jupiter, Florida late last month, Tiger is still very much a hot topic of conversation at The Masters this year.
3-time Masters champion Gary Player was asked this week what advice he would give to Tiger Woods following his DUI arrest. Gary’s answer was tone-deaf.
The Advice Gary Player Would Give To Tiger Woods
Following Tiger Woods’ arrest at the end of March and subsequent DUI arrest, this marked his second DUI. The first came back in May of 2017 involving prescription medication after Tiger was found asleep behind the wheel in Jupiter, Florida.
After his latest arrest the most common refrain was “why doesn’t Tiger Woods have a full-time driver?” I think we all lost count of the number of times someone we know suggested this in person or online.
It didn’t take long before everyone had their answer. Tiger Woods doesn’t use a personal driver “for privacy reasons” according to a report from PEOPLE.
Back to Gary Player…
The 9-time Major champion spoke with reporters in Augusta, Georgia and had this to say about Tiger Woods:
“Do I blame him for taking medicine? Hell, no. He has sleep deprivation. Do I blame him for taking something to help him sleep? No. But I don’t think he should drive a car. When you’re taking that medicine, it’s dangerous when you’re driving a car, same as it’s dangerous when you look at your cell phone in the car. There’s 6,000 accidents a day in motor cars.”
Gary Player continued, saying “So I think all he’s got to do is just not drive a car and get a chauffeur. My reflexes, I think, are as good as when I was 20, but I don’t drive anymore. I get a chauffeur. I think that’s the answer to it.”
Here is the video of Gary Player’s hypothetical advice for Tiger Woods:

If it was simply medicine and used to treat sleep deprivation then why is Tiger Woods reportedly in an in-patient treatment facility for celebrities in Switzerland? Do people normally seek extremely expensive addiction treatment for taking medicine?
Everyone knows it is dangerous to get behind the wheel while taking any medication that might cause impairment. Tiger Woods knows this because it led to his first DUI back in 2017. Yet nearly a decade later he was still making the decision to get behind the wheel under the influence.
This is not about Tiger Woods needing a chauffeur, even if he does, it is about Tiger needing to recognize there is a problem, addressing that, and making changes within his life which it appears he is doing by voluntarily seeking inpatient treatment in Switzerland.
