One of our favorite tennis stars Genie Bouchard was VERY unhappy that Maria Sharapova was allowed to return from her suspension for failing a drug test.

In an interview last month, just prior to Sharapova’s return, Bouchard minced no words…

“She’s a cheater and so to me…I don’t think a cheater in any sport should be allowed to play that sport again.”

“It’s so unfair to all the other players who do it the right way and are true. So, I think from the WTA it sends the wrong message to young kids…cheat and we’ll welcome you back with open arms.”

“I don’t think that’s right and…definitely not someone I can say I look up to anymore because that’s definitely ruined it for me a little bit.”

So when the two of them faced off at the Madrid Open on Monday you knew things were going to be very tense. And they were.

After Bouchard backed up her words by defeating Sharapova in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 6-4) Genie erupted in celebration.

Needless to say, the handshake after the match was a tad awkward…

After the match, speaking to the press, Bouchard was still pretty salty…

And then just to top things off she lobbed a couple of shade bombs Sharapova’s way on social media…

Reactions to Bouchard’s shade? Well, it was mixed, to say the least…
