While Geno Smith left the New York Jets back in 2017, Sunday’s 26-21 win over Gang Green was actually the first time that the former Gang Green quarterback had been in MetLife to face off against them. And not only did Smith leave New Jersey with a win over his former team, but he also made sure to troll them on his way out.

Following the victory over Aaron Rodgers and the hapless New York Jets in Week 13, Geno Smith took to social media to troll the franchise that first drafted him into the league.

In a captionless post shared to X, formerly Twitter, Smith shared a photo of the infamous “at my hater’s funeral” meme, an obvious reference to beating the Jets in their own building, dropping their record to 3-9.

In the win over the Jets, which improved the NFC West-leading Seahawks’ record to 7-5, Smith completed 64.5% of his passes for 206 yards and a touchdown. So far this season, Smith has completed 68.8% of his passes for 3,241 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

“I’m not going to make it about myself,” Smith told reporters after the game. “I really did enjoy my time in New York. We’re on a mission right now. The Jets were the next opponent.”

Smith was drafted by the Jets during the Rex Ryan era with the 39th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Smith was the Jets’ starting QB for the first two years of his career before missing the entirety of the 2015. In 2017, Smith was Eli Manning’s backup with the Giants — he was famously the quarterback that then-head coach Ben McAdoo benched Manning for, ending his consecutive starts streak — and spent 2018 with the Los Angeles Chargers.

In 2019, Smith would sign with the Seattle Seahawks in a move that would change his career. After backing up Russell Wilson for a few years, Smith became the team’s starter in 2022 and won NFL Comeback Player of the Year and made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2023.
