Chicago White Sox prospect George Wolkow recorded one of the most bizarre singles in Minor League Baseball history. The 19-year-old outfielder blooped a ground ball through the gap using only one arm on a balk.
He even drove in a run!
To make the entire sequence of events even more strange, Wolkow tried to call a timeout before the pitch. The MiLB umpire did not grant him the stoppage.
George Wolkow is a professional hitter.
This unusual occurrence took place at Atrium Health Ballpark in Georgia. The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers are right in the middle of a six-game road series against the Augusta GreenJackets.
Wolkow, a third-year player, chose to forgo a college baseball career in 2023. He was drafted by the White Sox in the seventh round as one of the youngest players on the professional level of the sport.
At 6-foot-7, 239 pounds, Wolkow makes his teammates look like middle schoolers.
The young outfielder has a cannon where his arm should be.
And all he does is mash.
However, his most recent hit was something of an accident.
All he needs is one hand!
Ethan Bagwell was on the bump for Athens. The Braves’ No. 29-ranked prospect started and stopped his delivery before the first pitch of his at-bat against Wolkow.
Wolkow tried to call a timeout but home-plate umpire Nicholas Sexton did not give it to him. As a result, the pitch was live and it would’ve been ruled a balk if not for what happened next.
“I was always taught like, ‘Hey, if it’s a balk and he throws it, it’s a free swing, swing out of your shoes,” Wolkow told MLB.com after the game.
There was only one problem. George Wolkow was not able to swing out of his shoes because he had already released the bat with his right hand.
That did not stop him from getting the barrel on the ball!
Wolkow stuck out the bat, made contact, and somehow ripped a ground ball past the infield. Not only did he reach base on a single, the blooper scored the runner from second.

Baseball is such an awesome sport because you can watch the game for your entire life and still see something new. I can confidently say that I have never seen a 6-foot-7 hitter collect an RBI single with only one arm on a free swing after a balk. I can also confidently say that I will never see it again. This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing!
