The college football program at Georgia has only ever worn a red helmet in the Kirby Smart era, dating back to 2015. However, the two-time national champion head coach is willing to abandon tradition to add a white uniform to the mix, but only if he can raise more NIL money.

There is a specific goal in mind.

Bulldogs fans are split on how they feel about the idea of a new uniform for college football. It will be interesting to see which side wins out come G-Day.

Georgia teased a white football helmet and uniform.

The University of Georgia football team has only worn a red helmet during games since the 1960s. There was one game on Oct. 31, 2009 where the Bulldogs wore a black helmet, but they lost by 24 points to Florida so it has not been worn since. Only red.

Smart has coached 138 games at his alma mater. Georgia wore a red helmet in all 138 games.

However, a bunch of recruits posted photos from their visits to campus in 2022 that featured a white lid. Arch Manning was one of them.

When asked about the white helmets, Smart did not close the door. He just said they were not coming soon.

“To say it would never happen would be foolish,” Smart said. “I don’t think never is in the vocabulary for anything. We’re open to looking at different things and exploring different options. But it’s not imminent.”

The helmets were ordered specifically by the equipment staff for recruiting visits. They were not to be worn during games. They have not been worn in any of the last four seasons. It was just for show.

And then the white helmets suddenly resurfaced at the beginning of March. They were featured in a video posted by the equipment staff that showed a player getting fitted for the spring practice period.

Georgia fans immediately ran wild with the idea that they could be worn during the spring game. That is not out of the realm of possibility.

Kirby Smart will trade tradition for NIL money.

The head coach of the Bulldogs was asked about the white helmets during the first press conference of the spring period. It’s not that he does not like them. He is only focused on winning. Not what they wear.

In fact, Kirby Smart is so sick of hearing about the uniforms, he proposed a deal.

If Georgia fans can triple the amount of subscribers to Glory Glory before the spring game, the team will wear the white helmets. Glory Glory is the program’s most prominent Name, Image and Likeness arm.

More simply put, Smart is willing to move away from the tradition of the red helmets in exchange for an increase in NIL money to spend on his roster. The game will be played on April 18.
