The New York Giants and Detroit Lions took part in a joint practice on Monday, and energy was at an all-time high. Tensions boiled over a number of times throughout the session resulting in players from both squads being separated.
In one instance, QB Daniel Jones was at the center of an exchange as the New York offense got into it with the Detroit defense. He made his presence known before pulled out of the scrum.
That moment came on a simple hand-off play to a Giants running back. Seeing one of his offensive linemen on the ground with a defender on top of him, the passer quickly inserted himself into the scuffle.

Jones can be seen rushing to his teammate’s defense, shoving a Lions player while sporting his red non-contact jersey. He threw caution to the wind!
“Situation happens like that, you try to stand up for your guys,” the quarterback said after practice. “I thought it was a good competitive practice all day today… good intensity and competitive spirit.”
Later on in the session, another fight broke out.
Giants and Lions players started to fight after a long completion to Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Jared Goff connected with his wideout on a deep pass later in the action. St. Brown took immediate offense to a defensive back’s post-play antics, creating yet another testy moment on the football field.

These incidents have been prevalent throughout the NFL offseason as teams gear up for preseason play. In most cases, those skirmishes have involved members of the same team, however.
We saw Steelers players get heated following a late hit to backup passer Justin Fields last week. Jadeveon Clowney made instant waves with a vicious hit on new teammate Chuba Hubbard in Carolina, too.
The fights are nothing new, though there may be one positive given that no Giants or Lions players were hurt in the action. We’re one step closer to football!
