Scottie Scheffler entered the newly christened PGA Tour season in the midst of the most dominant stretch of golf we’ve seen since Tiger Woods was running the show. One bettor made the questionable decision to doubt his ability to win at The American Express, and he’s been forced to subsist on nothing but Wendy’s chili for a full month as a result.

It’s been six years since Scottie Scheffler earned his PGA Tour card, and it only took him around two to secure the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. He initially spent 29 weeks at the top after landing there in April 2022, and while Rory McIlroy and John Rahm were temporarily able to unseat him on a few occasions over the course of the next year, he’s held that position since reascending on May 21, 2023.

Scheffler hasn’t missed the cut since the FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2022, and during the ongoing No. 1 streak that currently sits at a little over 140 weeks, he’s earned 14 victories on the PGA Tour with major wins at The Masters, PGA Championship, and British Open.

The 29-year-old was hoping to pick up where he left off when he headed to The American Express last week, and he earned his 25th victory at the expense of one doubter who will be overhauling their diet as a result.

A guy who doubted Scottie Scheffler’s ability to win The American Express has to exclusively eat Wendy’s chili for a month

Scheffler finished his opening round one shot out of first place with a 63 on Thursday, and the man who entered the tournament as the overwhelming favorite only cemented that position with that showing.

However, Larry Shea, a golf bettor who uses the social media account for Tom & Marty’s bar in Binghamton, New York to share his thoughts, was not sold.

He asserted Scheffler has trouble sealing the deal when he gets off to a hot start, and he was convinced he’d fall apart at PGA West to the point where he pledged to only eat Wendy’s chili for the next month if he was able to win the tournament.

Scheffler ended up in a tie for first with 18-year-old phenom Blades Brown after the latter shot a 60 to his 64 on Friday. The two of them were a stroke behind Si Woo Kim heading into Sunday, but Scheffler followed up a 68 with a 66 and ended up cruising to a four-stroke victory at -27.

That means Shea is now resigned to a steady diet of chili from Wendy’s until February 25th, and he promised he’d be living up to his word while kicking off the self-imposed punishment in a video.

I wish him and his digestive system the best of luck.
