Grand Canyon students leaked the phone numbers of Utah State head coach Jerrod Calhoun and star guard Mason Falslev prior to the college basketball game in Phoenix on Saturday. Both players received large number of calls and texts in the 12/18 hours leading up to tip-off.

The harrassment could be considered a Class 1 misdemeanor in the state of Arizona.

This is not the first time in college basketball (or sports) history that an opposing player had his phone number made public before a big game, nor will it be the last. That does not make it right.

Utah State traveled to Grand Canyon.

These two mid-major teams entered the 2025-26 season with legitimate March Madness hopes. Grand Canyon started the year at 10-6. Utah State started hot at 15-1.

The Antelopes are currently unranked but they are primed to make some noise in the Mountain West. The Aggies are currently ranked No. 23 in the country.

And yet, it was the former who handed the latter their first conference on Saturday.

Grand Canyon jumped out to a 42-36 lead at halftime and never looked back. Utah State dropped its second game of the season by a final score of 84-74.

Jerrod Calhoun and Mason Falslev had their phone numbers leaked before the college basketball game.

There may not be a rowdier student section than the Havocs of Grand Canyon University. They create one of the most intimidating environments in college basketball for every home game.

The most involved Havocs typically provide a “cheat sheet” to the entire student section prior to tip-off. It is fairly common practice across the entire sport. Somebody does a deep dive to find out as much information as possible to be used as ammunition during the game. The sheet typically includes topics like hobbies, ex-girlfriends, weird habits, etc. Anything that could be used to heckle.

Most of the information is harmless but the Havocs crossed a line on Saturday.

The flyer for Utah State featured the phone number of star guard Mason Falslev.

His number was also made public on the night before the game. Same with head coach Jerrod Calhoun. The 44-year-old received many “descriptive and unfortunate calls and texts throughout the night.”

This kind of leak could be considered against the law. Arizona Revised Statue 13-2916 explicitly outlines the “Use of an electronic communication to terrify, intimidate, threaten or harass; unlawful use of electronic communication device; applicability; classification; definitions.”

The leak of Calhoun and Falselv’s phone numbers falls under this jurisdiction as a Class 1 misdemeanor. It is unclear as to whether that would only apply to the person responsible for the leak or any person who texted and/or called either of the two Aggies.

Grand Canyon has yet to comment on the matter as of this writing.
