Greg Kampe presented a simple request to his players on Friday as Oakland used the Milwaukee facility for college basketball practice. They looked at him like he was speaking another language.
The legendary 69-year-old roasted the Golden Grizzlies for their lack of what he considers and/or expects to be a common knowledge of analog clocks!
Kampe has been the head coach at Oakland for 40+ years. He is never going to leave. His career will come to an end on his own terms. He will never be fired.
And needless to say, the world has completely changed since he was first hired in 1984. The internet was less than one year old and the World Wide Web had yet to be invented. DVDs came to exist in 1996. Bluetooth was born in 1999. Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in 2007.
You get the idea. No matter how much things change, Kampe remains the same. He continues to be the head college basketball coach at Oakland University.
The Grizzlies, off of a historic run in March Madness behind Jack Gohlke, are not very good this year. They lost to the Panthers on Thursday and dropped to 13-17. They will play at Green Bay on Saturday to close out the regular season.
Instead of traveling back to Michigan, Milwaukee allowed Oakland to use its facility for practice on Friday. Greg Kampe told his team to close out its day with four-straight made free throws at each of the six lowered hoops on the court. He told the players, all of whom are Gen Z, to rotate clockwise.
Kampe said, “you would have thought I was speaking Latin. Not one guy knew what that meant.”
At the end of practice at Milwaukee practice facility today I said make 4 straight free throws at each of the 6 baskets. Rotate clockwise. You would have thought I was speaking Latin. Not one guy knew what that ment. pic.twitter.com/goen1bmf9g

Imagine if this same scenario took place in 1984. Greg Kampe would’ve thought that his players were the dumbest bunch of idiots to ever exist. That may still be the case today but Gen Z at least has an excuse. They don’t use analog clocks!
