Although he just won an Emmy Award for his work as Fox Sports’ lead NFL color commentator, former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is still being demoted this season nonetheless.

Due to the impending arrival of Tom Brady at Fox Sports to be their lead analyst, Greg Olsen has been bumped down to the network’s “B team” despite the fact that the majority of NFL fans have been huge fans of his broadcasting work since he began in 2021.

Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Olsen painted the picture of a determined man who one day plans to Fox Sports’ (or another network’s) lead commentator.

“My aspirations are even more clear. I want to call top games. I want to call Super Bowls. I want to call a game where the entire country tunes in,” Olsen said while appearing on The Rich Eisen Show.

He then drew a comparison to the competitive spirit of being a football player and how it now applies to his broadcasting career.

“No different than as a player, those are the ones you live for. those are the ones that you want that pressure, you want that magnifying glass…  I love that, that’s what you strive for. I’m committed to that path now more than ever.”

Olsen then touched on how it felt to be demoted because Fox Sports hired Brady, saying that he’s a “grown man” who knew what he signed up for.

“I understand the situation that I’m in. I’m not going to sit here and say I’m thrilled and I’m doing jumping jacks over it, but, I’m a grown man. I understand what I signed up for. I understand the world that we live in, and some things don’t necessarily go your way. But I’m confident that if I can just keep doing what I’ve been doing… can I get back there one day? Absolutely.”

During his playing career, Olsen was considered one of the best tight ends of his generation, as he was the first tight end in NFL history to have three straight 1,000 yard seasons.

Olsen was drafted out of the University of Miami with the 31st overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

After four seasons in Chicago, Olsen was traded to the Carolina Panthers for a 3rd round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The best seasons of his career came in Carolina when he was catching passes from Cam Newton.

While in Carolina, Olsen had 524 catches for 6,463 yards and scored 39 touchdowns in 126 games for the Panthers. He also helped the franchise win its second NFC championship in 2015.

Olsen would play his final season in 2020 with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring in January 2021. Olsen signed a one-day contract with the Carolina Panthers to retire as a member of the organization.
