The New York Mets season completely turned around when the fictional McDonald’s character Grimace threw out the first pitch on June 12 at Citi Field. Since, the Mets have been unstoppable,  winning 10 of 12 games and rescuing their season after a decrepit month of May that saw them go 9-19.

Mets fans love a good bit, and they’ve gone all-in on the lovable purple glob. People are dressing up as Grimace to Mets games, his name is getting chanted, and players are getting asked about it.

After beating the Yankees on Tuesday, the two rivals were back at it on Wednesday. The Mets led 4-0 when a torrential downpour came through Flushing Meadows, causing a rain delay of well over an hour.

Mets fans found ways to stay occupied, though, not wanting to let their very expensive Subway Series tickets go to waste.  And, they got some big-time entertainment when someone in a Grimace costume chugged a beer in the concourse.

Yeah, the vibes are great right now in Queens.  It’s the Mets, so it will probably fall apart at some point. But, right now, the Mets are playing great baseball powered by Grimace, and the fans are loving it.

A win on Wednesday would get the Mets back to .500.
