Via the Globetrotters:
The Harlem Globetrotters made history by playing an outdoor basketball game on ice in Michigan. Using ice cleats and hockey helmets, the Globetrotters proved victorious over the Global Select with the help of Detroit Red Wings Alumnus Kevin Miller. They helped fill the void of the cancelled Winter Classic, which was scheduled to take place in Michigan on New Year's Day.
The ice game occurred on the Globetrotters' most historic anniversary — celebrating the team's first ever road game in Hinckley, Ill. on Jan. 7, 1927. Since that time, the team has won over 24,000 games and lost only 345.
I've been thinking really hard of something I can contribute here, so now is time where I will mention that my parents once took me to a “Harlem Wizards” game, who are a cheap knockoff of the actual Globetrotters. Since I was six at the time, I (very rationally) thought that I had attended an actual Globetrotters throwdown, and it wasn't until last year, upon making an offhand comment about the Globetrotters, that my dad revealed we had attended the store-brand equivalent. Further proof to the theory that when you actually look back at things, most of your life isn't as close to as awesome as you assumed it's been.
