Harrison Butker, a kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs who makes $5 million per season, believes he knows what it means to “do hard things” and “fight against the culture of emasculation,” at least based on his recent commencement speech at Benedictine College.

Butker, speaking at the 2024 graduation ceremony at the rural Kansas private college, railed against — among many other things — President Joe Biden for claiming to be Catholic and pro-choice, while also telling the young men in the crowd to “be unapologetic in their masculinity.”

The 28-year-old Butker, who went to a Georgia private school that cost around $30,000 per year before playing college football at Georgia Tech, plays one of two positions in the NFL alongside punter that does not require contact and is currently on a 5-year, $20 million contract.

“Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally,” Butker said. “He has been so vocal in his support for the murder of innocent babies that I’m sure to many people it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice.”

Butker did not, however, mention the religious sanctity of marriage as it relates to indicted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has been married three times.

Butker’s comments about women didn’t stop at controlling their bodies, however, as he also seemed to want to shape their careers, as well, by suggesting the ultimate job they can have is being a stay-at-home mother, calling the pursuit of their own professional pursuits a “diabolic lie.”

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world… embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker,” he said.

Butker also had complaints about Pride Month, which is in June, calling it a “deadly sin.”

“Not the deadly sins sort of Pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the holy ghost to glorify him,” Butker said.
