A high school basketball game ended in forfeiture after one team walked off the court midgame following a series of ejections. The controversial contest was over before halftime.

The matchup involved Powell County and Montgomery County in Kentucky. The game was heated early on, ultimately leading to the early exit.

Montgomery County was ahead by 23 points at the time of the forfeiture. Powell County quit after a pair of in-game incidents.

Early in the second quarter of action, a number of players were ejected amid an altercation that resulted in benches clearing. A Montgomery County player fell to the ground on an inbound play. Pushing and shoving ensued. The entire Powell County team quickly rushed onto the floor to back their teammate.

All but one player from the Powell County bench was ejected for leaving the sideline. That gave the team just six players to finish out the contest.

Soon after, another skirmish broke out, leading to a technical foul on Powell County. Rather than take the court to resume play, the entire team packed up and headed into the locker room.

The official outcome of the game was not immediately posted on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s website. The 10th Region ranked Montgomery County as the second-best program in the area in its most recent standings. They were able to flex their muscles in the game against Powell County.

Questions with officiating quickly flooded the comments section of the post. According to the OP, each referee involved was highly regarded.

Unhappy with how things played out on the court. Powell County players and coaches chose not to finish the heated battle. With nearly half the team tossed from the contest, it seems doubtful they would’ve been able to overcome the early deficit.
