Compton will allow spectators to attend its high school football game against Dorsey after all. The school suddenly reversed course on its policy for Friday night after widespread backlash.
Both decisions were made without an explanation.
Safety should be the primary concern at high school football games. However, this latest sequence of events proves how not to overreact to a minor incident that can be prevented with proper security measures.
Dorsey was out of the loop.
It was first reported by 562 Sports on Tuesday afternoon that the high school football game between Dorsey High School and Compton High School was going to be closed off to spectators. Neither school provided an explanation for the decision.
Dorsey head coach Stafon Johnson was completely blindsided. As was his opponent, apparently.
The official instagram account of the Compton football program posted that it was “very disappointed” in response to the news. The post made it clear who was responsible for the ruling— the administration.
And yet, the school did not provide any additional information. Not a word!
Compton will allow fans to attend its high school football game.
Most people assumed the initial decision to ban fans from Friday’s game stemmed from a fight in the crowd last weekend. That led to widespread backlash.
People did not understand why the game needed to be closed to fans. This is not the first time that people in the crowd of a sporting event threw hands and the solution is as simple as increased security.
To force friends, family, students and parents to wait outside of the stadium while the game was being played seemed like a huge overreaction.
Fortunately, Compton came to its senses. Assistant coach Lamar Freeman confirmed to 562 Sports that the decision has been overturned. Fans will be allowed to watch the game from the stands!
