Highland Park and Schlagle were not allowed to finish their high school football game on Friday after a bench-clearing brawl led to an early stoppage. However, it was not ruled as final.

There are still more than 13 minutes remaining on the clock.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association will determine how to proceed with this currently incomplete high school football contest. The Scots lead the Stallions 36-18.

High school football officials called for the early stoppage.

Highland Park entered the game at 3-0. F.L. Schlagle entered at 1-2.

The schools are separated by approximately 55 miles in the Sunflower State.

Even though these two programs are not considered rivals, emotions often run high when the score starts to get out of hand. Tempers flared with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter.

I do not know what prompted the initial pushing and shoving match but it very quickly escalated to a full-blown melee. Punches started flying. Players used helmets like a weapon. Benches cleared.

Both sides were eventually separated and players were kept to the sideline while officials spoke with local police to determine the proper outcome. They ultimately decided to end the game.

Will Highland Park or Schlagle

The game was stopped during the third quarter. The Scots led the Stallions by 18 before the brawl.

However, this game has not yet been declared as final and Highland Park head coach Jermaine Monroe is not sure what will happen.

“I’ll leave that up to KSHSAA and that’s out of my hands,” Monroe told CJOnline. “I don’t know if it’s a victory for us or if we have to finish the game. Hopefully not two Ls.”

The Kansas State High School Activities Association is currently reviewing the video from the game. It will consult with game officials and school officials before it announces a decision. There are three possible outcomes.

  1. The game must resume. These two teams will pick back up in the third quarter at a later date.
  2. Highland Park will be declared as the winner because it led Schlagle at the time of stoppage.
  3. Both teams receive a loss by mandatory forfeit.

I don’t know when this game would be able to continue so the Scots will either be declared the winner by a final score of 36-18 or receive a loss alongside the Stallions. The players who were most involved with the brawl are also likely to be suspended.
