When we last heard from Bryson DeChambeau, he was mulling over his future as he entered the final year of his contract with the LIV Golf League. And after Thursday’s 2026 season debut in Adelaide, he may want to think a little bit harder.

Sure, DeChambeau sits in a tie for the lead at The Grange East Course with a first-round 6-under, 66. But he also hit one of the worst shots you will ever see from a pro player, let alone a multiple-time major champion.

Bryson DeChambeau Hits Brutal Drive Then Incredible Recovery Shot

On the Par 5, 10th hole, DeChambeau pulled out his driver and completely topped the ball, sending it flying about five feet off the ground before it went rolling down into the fairway.

“Did I hit the ground on that, or just knuckleball?” he asked as he gave a perplexed look at this driver.

The drive went just 245 yards, more than 100 yards shorter than what you’d expect from him in that situation. It left him with 278 yards in to the flag for his second shot.

However, because he’s Bryson DeChambeau, he then drilled a 3-wood 288 yards on his second shot, leaving himself a 30-foot eagle putt that he just missed, tapping in for birdie.

DeChambeau is clearly the league’s biggest star, and recovery shots like that are a big reason why. However, he may not be a LIV Golf member for much longer.

“I’ve got a contract for this year, and we’ll go through it there and see what happens after that,” DeChambeau said recently of LIV shifting from 54-hole to 72-hole events. “Look, it’s 72 holes, it’s changed, but we’re still excited to play professionally and play for what we’re doing and go across the world…Is it what we ultimately signed up for? No. So I think we’re supposed to be different, so I’m a little indifferent to it right now.”
