As the NFL Draft quickly approaches, it is no secret that the Houston Texans are looking for a quarterback right now.

With the 2nd pick in the draft, the expectation is that they will be finding one there.

However, they may also pick one up in free agency. The team will need somebody under center while they wait for their rookie to be ready to take over and there are some interesting options available right now.

Today, their offensive coordinator revealed which one of those options they are interested in.

Bobby Slowik revealed that the Texans have a process to go through to find a quarterback and Jimmy Garoppolo will obviously be a part of that process.

If the Texans sign Garoppolo, it would likely be with the expectation that he is only going to be their starter for a year while whoever they draft 2nd overall to be their franchise quarterback develops.

Garoppolo is the best option available on the market right now to fill that role and would represent a pretty big upgrade at the position for the Texans.

The last 2 years, the Texans offense has been led by Davis Mills, who outperformed expectations as a rookie after being drafted in the 3rd round in 2021.

Unfortunately, he didn’t improve in his 2nd season and was eventually benched as the Texans struggled to the league’s 2nd worst record.

Meanwhile, Garoppolo led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game in 2021. In 2022, he was expected to be replaced by Trey Lance, but was called back into action when Lance suffered a season-ending injury.

He once again had the 49ers positioned as one of the NFC’s best teams after 10 games. He went
7-3 in those 10 games as a starter while throwing for 2437 yards and 16 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also suffered a season-ending injury, which gave Brock Purdy the chance to break out.

Jimmy Garoppolo won’t be leading the Texans to any championship games with the roster they currently have assembled, but he would give them a stable option and a quarterback their rookie can learn from in year 1.
