Hugh Freeze was fired as Auburn’s football coach after a 4-5 start to the 2025 season. His daughter is getting honest about the impacts it’s had on her family.

Madison Freeze took to TikTok to open up on the struggles of being a coach’s daughter.

Freeze was hired by the Tigers ahead of the 2023 campaign after a successful stint at Liberty. He boasted previous SEC experience at Ole Miss, though his tenure ended in controversy.

The coach got a chance to scrub the tarnished reputation on the Plains. He’d hoped to revive a program moving onto its third coach in four years.

He, unfortunately, failed to do so. The Tigers were 15-19 under Freeze’s guidance. He did not record a winning season throughout his time with the program.

Hugh Freeze’s daughter has been through this before.

She’s been there through the good and bad dating back to his first stint at Ole Miss as an assistant. Freeze coached tight ends in 2006-07 before becoming a head coach at NAIA Lambuth and later, Arkansas State.

Between 2004-2012, the family moved five times. It eventually found some semblance of stability during a five-year stretch in Oxford.

Freeze had previously seen success at every stop. He went 10-3 in his lone season with the Red Wolves. He was 39-25 at Ole Miss as a head coach, and 34-15 at Liberty.

While he has been forced to step down from a position in years past, Auburn was undoubtedly his most difficult job stint.

Freeze was given some grace following a 6-7 output in Year 1. Recruiting success helped provide hope for the future. A 5-7 record in Year 2 cranked the heat up on his seat. Criticism was at an all-time high in 2025.

Auburn was expected to compete in the SEC. It is currently 1-5 in league play. Calls for the coach’s job had been heard throughout the year. Those demands were honored after Game 9.

The head coach wasn’t the only person impacted.

His family was, too. It means another move after a three-year stay. Hugh Freeze’s daughter, Madison, opened up on the difficulties that come with being a head coach’s kid.

In Part 1 of what’s now a two-part series, Madison got honest about the backlash her family received amid her father’s coaching struggles.

“We were promised four years,” she said. “They say if you love Auburn, it’ll love you back. That wasn’t the case.”

That initial video was met with both support and criticism. Members of other football families could relate.

There were some, though, that found her response to be out of touch. Not many work in professions where you can be paid $15 million to be fired.

She followed up with a response to that criticism.

The partnership between Hugh Freeze and Auburn did not work out. It led to a split, which cost the Tigers financially.

Many around the program are upset about the failed investment. Madi Freeze says those frustrations should not be taken out on her.
