Hugh Freeze is not expected to become the next high school football coach at Enterprise in Alabama at this time. An extremely juicy rumor does not appear to be true.

Let’s break it down.

The former college football coach at Ole Miss, Liberty and Auburn remains unemployed. His name was incorrectly tied to a high school football job opening that does not exist.

Enterprise High School does not need a football coach.

As of this writing, Benjamin Blackmon is still listed as the head football coach and physical education teacher at Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Alabama. Enterprise is a 7A public high school in Coffee County. It enrolls approximately 1,200 students in Grades 9-12 as one of three municipal schools that take on-post Fort Rucker families at the secondary levels.

Blackmon made the surprising decision to leave Fort High School for Enterprise in 2022 after starting his career at Gulf Shores. The Wildcats went 8-4 in 2022, 9-3 in 2023, 8-5 in 2024 and 6-4 last season.

Enterprise coaches were caught improperly filming a future opponent in 2024, which led Blackmon to serve a one-game suspension but he was not fired. The school believes in what he is building.

Although they did not perform up to the expectations in 2025, their head coach is still expected to return in 2026. As far as I am aware, his job is not in jeopardy. Blackmon remains employed.

If Ben Blackmon is the head football coach at Enterprise High School, Enterprise High School does not need to hire a new head football coach. Duh.

But here’s the thing…

East Tennessee State had coach Will Healy recently promoted tight ends coach Brian Blackmon as his primary play-caller. Brian is Ben’s brother. There was some speculation that Brian (and Healy) might bring Ben on staff. Maybe.

If Ben was in fact to leave for Johnson City, Enterprise would obviously need to hire his replacement.

Enter Hugh Freeze?

A lot of this chatter about the Wildcats started on the Auburn message board for On3/Rivals. More specifically, there was a post about Hugh Freeze.

Players at Enterprise were supposedly told not to enter the football facility. One of the players supposedly disobeyed the orders. He supposedly leaked a photo of a new plaque outside of the coach’s office. The photo supposedly revealed Hugh Freeze as the new head coach.

Multiple Enterprise players pushed back on the “breaking news” about their head football coach.

They didn’t quite understand the purpose of the Message Board Geniuses account. It was created to share some of the most ridiculous and inflammatory posts from college football message boards around the country. Most of the posts are nonsensical or an overreaction. But sometimes they end up being right.

Rarely, but sometimes.

This is not one of those times. Unfortunately, according to Rivals reporter Andy Villamarzo, recently fired Auburn coach Hugh Freeze is not currently expected to take over for Blackmon at Enterprise.

“Here to pour the cold water on this steamy rumor: Hugh Freeze will not be the next head coach at Enterprise High School (Alabama), per multiple sources.”

Bummer. That would’ve been the most entertaining hire in high school football history!
