The Auburn Tigers enter Week 3 coming off a home loss to Cal which provided more questions than answers for head coach Hugh Freeze. It appears he’ll make some adjustments with New Mexico coming to town on Saturday.
Freeze spoke on play calling changes ahead of the weekend as his starting signal caller continues to struggle. His comments on the gameplan immediately went viral.
“I assure you the package will not be big,” the head coach said while previewing his next matchup.
Though he was speaking on his plan to decrease the size of his playbook, noting that his coaches “carried too much” into that Cal game in hopes of combating an array of defensive looks, listeners immediately ran with the quip.
It was easy to do given Freeze’s controversial exit from Ole Miss.
One of those social media trolls happened to be current Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin gave a suggestive reply to Hugh Freeze’s comments on X.

The dig was an obvious response to Hugh Freeze’s “small package” reference. Kiffin just couldn’t help himself!
The Auburn coach is far from the first to be targeted online by Kiffin this season. SEC rival Brian Kelly has been in the coach’s crosshairs for much of the calendar year.
He’s also thrown shots at the likes of South Carolina, Missouri, and Mississippi State over the last few months.
Like Freeze, Kiffin is an offensive minded coach. Unlike the Tigers, the Rebs have had little trouble moving the ball thus far in the 2024 college football season.
Through two games, Ole Miss has outscored overmatched opponents by a combined total of 128-3.
The path toughens up a bit this week with a trip to Wake Forest, but don’t expect Lane Kiffin to switch up the offensive attack. The size of his playbook package has been more than effective!
