The Kansas basketball team picked up a huge win over Michigan State on Tuesday to improve to 3-0 on the young season. The victory not only preserved the Jayhawks’ No. 1 national ranking, but it proved to be historic for head coach Bill Self.
Self is now the all-time wins leader in program history. His 591 victories surpassed the legendary Phog Allen, whom the arena in Lawrence is named after. Superstar player Hunter Dickinson promptly led a celebration in the locker room to commemorate the achievement.
It was only fitting after the big man’s contributions in the win, which included a game-high 28 points on 13-of-21 shooting. Unfortunately, he failed miserably in his off-the-court duties!

Dickinson attempted to drench his head coach with a Gatorade bath as he walked into the locker room doors. His poorly executed efforts, however, nearly ended in a knockout.
The center didn’t realize how full the topped-off Gatorade cooler was going to be. He should’ve tested things out prior! Without knowledge of the weight, Dickinson’s attempt to lift the liquid up over his head coach’s head instead sent him on a direct trajectory for Bill Self’s noggin.
Luckily, the cooler missed that target, as did the large majority of its contents. “It was a lot heavier than I expected,” Dickinson said on X after the game. It turned out to be his second misfire of the night.

Bill Self walked away scot-free from Dickinson’s attack. The same couldn’t be said for the opposing Spartans!
Michigan State was ‘too small’ for Hunter Dickinson.
The big man simply could not be contained in the paint. Dickinson led his team in scoring and rebounding to land a second straight double-double. He was sure to let his opponent hear about it, too.

Kansas is living up to their No. 1 ranking through the first two weeks of the season. The Jayhawks had already knocked off North Carolina prior to beating Michigan State on Tuesday night.
The road gets a bit easier over the next two games with matchups against Oakland and UNC Wilmington before Self and Co. play No. 6 Duke in Las Vegas.
