Hykeem Williams will suit up for the Colorado Buffaloes in 2025 after beginning his college career at Florida State. The wide receiver spoke on the difference seen between the coaching staffs ahead of his debut in Boulder.
Williams highlighted the leadership in Colorado and its ability to develop talent for the NFL. In doing so, he shaded the ‘Noles following a hypocritical recruiting flip.
Williams was a highly ranked prospect in the 2023 cycle. The pass catcher was viewed as a five-star talent and a Top 5 player at his position.
The Sunshine State native committed and signed onto play at Florida State. He saw limited action in his two years on campus.
Williams did appear in 17 games but tallied just 21 catches on offense. He bolted for a new school after a 2-10 campaign.
Hykeem Williams’ flip was notable.
Mainly due to some pre-signing banter with former No. 1 overall recruit Travis Hunter. Hunter famously flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State to play for Deion Sanders.
The Heisman winner then followed Coach Prime to Boulder.
Williams commented on Hunter’s signing day switch-up during his own recruitment. “Ain’t no Travis Hunter here,” he was heard saying about his loyalty to the Seminoles.
“We locked in. It’s time to work!”
Two seasons later, Williams dropped Florida State for Deion Sanders. He did exactly what he said he wouldn’t, though a few years down the road.
Now, he’s set to make an impact with the Buffs. The pass catcher spoke on his new coaching staff this offseason.
Florida State can’t develop football talent…
At least not as well as Colorado. Williams inadvertently shaded the ‘Noles in his assessment of Deion Sanders’ staff.

“More development,” Williams said of his coaches’ strengths. “More, more, more development. Coming here, you’re just around so many guys that have been there.”
Florida State has lived and died in the transfer portal of late. Development is less of an issue when nabbing players already proven at the college level.
Colorado’s had the same approach, though, taking more transfers than most since Coach Prime’s arrival.
Williams, one of those talented transfer additions, has been impressed by the NFL experience on the Colorado coaching staff. He says it puts the Buffs over the top when compared to others.
The wideout hopes to see his production increase under new guidance.
