Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes put his backup, Ian Book, on blast for eating an absurd amount of pizza at the team’s annual team-bonding event during training camp. He had to fight off big offensive lineman to get his fair share of the pie!

It was an impressive performance from the former Notre Dame signal-caller.

Kansas City wrapped its camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri on Thursday. The Chiefs will return back to the team facility for the next several weeks before the NFL regular season and head coach Andy Reid is excited about what he has seen so far.

You’ve been able to see the growth. We’ve added a ton in the last few days up here, and the guys have digested it, been able to spit it back, retain it. That’s a positive. And then maybe most of all is getting yourself into football shape and kind of ramping up to your first game against the Ravens.

A large focus of training camp is cohesion. New faces mix with the old guard to form new bonds. They are forced to spend almost every waking moment together on a college campus in dorms.

However, Kansas City makes a point to get out!

Mahomes recently offered the inside scoop on this year’s off-campus pizza parties. There were two.

I mean, for me, it’s even more than the dorms. We always go [out to eat] a couple of times, and we take the guys, we get some pizzas. I used to do it after the kind of like the second padded of day of practice, before the 10-10-10. So we were there yesterday — don’t remember that for next year and try to storm our party. But we go there and you just eat and joke around.

Book, who signed a reserve/future contract with the organization in January, did not get his fair share on the first trip to the parlor. The offensive line was hungry. They ate him under the table.

The first time we went, the O-Line — he only got one piece because the O-Line ate all his pizza.

He made sure that didn’t happen again when they went out to eat a second time!

I think Ian Book had like, nine pieces of pizza yesterday, man […] I had to calm him down […]

He went in on this last day.

Even though Patrick Mahomes put Ian Book on blast for his pizza consumption, it was a moment that the team will not soon forget. The little things go a long way!

So, stuff like that is where you build that bond, and then you got those jokes and stuff for the rest of the year. That’s what builds the great culture we have.

Kansas City is looking to three-peat this season and the Chiefs might be even better this year than last. Especially on offense.

However, they better be sure not to eat too much pizza before taking the field! Book might be okay, but the last thing he needs to get his number called with nine slices of ‘za sitting in his stomach…
