An Illinois news station is catching some online heat for a graphic posted about an Illini player. The image references said player’s upcoming legal hearing which also involves the basketball program.

Terrence Shannon Jr. made waves this week by filing a temporary restraining order against his own team. The suspended guard is looking to return to the court amid serious off-court allegations.

Shannon was charged with rape in Kansas while in town for a football game between the Illini and Jayhawks in September.

The senior, who’s averaging 21.7 points per game this year, maintains his innocence.

“All he wants is a fair process, and we don’t think he’s gotten that yet,” his attorney said. “He’s been granted no due process rights, no presumption of innocence, no fair and complete open opportunity to defend the claim.”

If granted, the restraining order would allow Terrence Shannon a brief return to the court. A hearing has now been set in the case, which one local news channel attempted to advertise to the public.

That attempt failed miserably.

FOX Illinois graphic - Terrence Shannon

In a now deleted post on X, FOX Illinois dropped the ball with the bizarre graphic given the circumstances.

Followers quickly reacted on social media.

“What if I told you not everything needs a graphic?”

“Made a graphic like it’s a signing day announcement.”

“What are we doing here?”

“I’ve seen a lot of crazy graphics… This is by far the most insane.”

“What in the world am I looking at?”

Tough look for the news station.

As for Terrence Shannon, the hearing for that restraining order will come Friday, January 12th.
