It’s official. March Madness is here, and boy, did it come in with a bang.
The most exciting postseason in sports is gearing up with Power Five conference tournaments kicking off next week. It will be the final chance for schools to improve their standing for the NCAA Tournament. The madness will ensue shortly thereafter, with six exciting rounds of “do-or-die” matchups.
That all culminates with the National Championship.
Yesterday, we got a glimpse of what’s to come over the next month.
A number of mid-major conference tournaments began this week, but none were more entertaining than that of the Big South.
The opening round saw a four-game slate which ended with three overtime decisions and a pair of buzzer-beating game winners.
Let’s dive right in.
North Carolina A&T took down Radford in overtime in the tournament’s first game. Radford overcame a 14-point halftime deficit but couldn’t get it done in the extra session.
A couple games later, High Point and Hampton played some free basketball with High Point pulling out an 84-77 overtime victory.
That was just the beginning.

The most entertaining games came down to the final shot.
First up was Charleston Southern’s upset of UNC Asheville, the only game that didn’t go into overtime. Down one point in the final seconds, the Bucs missed an open three but landed the put back lay-in as time expired.

Charleston Southern entered the tournament as the lowest seed with just one conference win. Now, they’ll be moving on to the quarterfinals.
Then came the final contest of the night.
It took two overtime sessions to decide the matchup between Campbell and Presbyterian.
Presbyterian overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to force overtime, and they looked to have the game in hand before Campbell stormed back with a buzzer-beating lay-up to tie the game yet again.

Campbell had more heroics in the double OT period with Milos Stajcic drilling a three-pointer with less than a second left on the clock.
The shot solidified the Camels’ win and kept their season alive for at least one more game.
