The Indiana State baseball team showed out in its series finale against Wagner. The final score looked more like one you’d see at a football game in the fall as opposed to on the diamond.
The Sycamores scored 36 runs, many of which came in record-setting third inning. The offense simply couldn’t get out!
Indiana State held a 5-0 lead upon entering that third frame. That advantage would be 25 by inning’s end. The Sycamores racked up 20 runs on 11 hits. Twenty-one straight batters reached base as the offense continued to cycle the bases.
Indiana State’s 3rd inning in baseball against Wagner one of the crazier things you will ever see. 20 runs score as TWENTY-ONE consecutive batters reach! And the first batter struck out! @d1baseball @11point7 pic.twitter.com/SOxRcgkNHL

The total broke the previous mark of 19 runs scored in a single third inning, which had been held by Clemson. It was one run shy of the record for runs scored in any frame, and the lineup was far from done.
Just two at-bats later, the Sycamores threw up another double-digit output. They scored 10 runs in the fifth to expand their lead to 35-1. They’d tack on one final run later in the contest before eventually winning 36-6.
36 runs, 29 hits = Sycamores Win.

Despite the deficit, Wagner chose to play out all nine innings. That wasn’t the case in a matchup between Rhode Island and William & Mary, which had a chance to become the highest-scoring game of all-time if not for the run rule.
With the win, the Indiana State baseball team improved to 2-1 on the year. After dropping its season opener to Wagner on Friday, the Sycamores outscored the Seahawks 52-12 to take the series.
They put an exclamation point on the finale by setting a new program record for scoring. They’ll look to keep the momentum going this week when they square off against Florida Gulf Coast.
